APRA AMCOS
Distributing Royalties Through UX And Cloud Transformation
Overview
APRA’s legacy royalty systems were built for another era—opaque, inflexible, and frustrating for both artists and internal teams. Distributions required full database shutdowns, happened only once a year, and left users in the dark about when and how they’d be paid.
The UX Challenge
The business lacked visibility into payments and performance.
Internal tools were complex, fragile, and slow.
All distributions were processed together, making it hard to isolate or audit specific income streams.
System downtime blocked real-time interaction or iteration.
The Solution
Migrating to the cloud opened up a new frontier—both technically and experientially. I worked closely with engineering and business stakeholders to design a new system that could scale with demand, surface insights clearly, and reduce operational friction.
Key improvements
Live tools that operate without system downtime.
Segmented, more frequent distributions (e.g., radio-only, live-only)
Real-time dashboards for SME’s and analysts.
Streamlined internal workflows built on responsive, accessible UI patterns.
Full alignment with the newly updated design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and an improved cross-product experience
Redesigned admin tools with accessible, modular interfaces.
Continuous operation, no more downtime during distributions.
Impact
Distribution calculations have gone from taking weeks to only taking a few hours
Real-time access to billions of data points
Faster, more regular payouts for artists
Increased transparency and trust
Reduced load on internal Distribution teams
A unified, modern interface ready for future innovation
